New items of cotton material contain excess dye that may come off during the first few washes and / or wears. Any new, coloured garment / bandanna should be washed before it is worn. For the 1st wash and the next few washes, launder it with like-colour items.
Allow 5% of shrinkage for all cotton products as a general guide.
