How to Attach a Hat Chin Cord Easily – A Simple Step-by-Step Guide
Struggling with That Tiny Chin Cord Hook? Here's an Easy Trick!
Have you ever struggled to attach a removable chin cord to your sun hat because the hook opening seems too small? You're not alone!
Many customers, particularly older adults or those with limited finger strength or dexterity, find it difficult to feed the fabric loop through the tiny opening of the hook. Some even try to force the hook open with their fingernails, which can be frustrating and uncomfortable.
The good news is that there's a much easier way!
Follow our illustrated guide below. The four pictures show the sequence from finding the loop to securing the cord.
Step 1: Locate the Fabric Loop
Turn your hat over and find the small fabric attachment loop along the inside edge of the brim. Gently hold the loop between your thumb and forefinger.
Step 2: Push the Whole Hook Through the Loop – The Secret Trick!
This is the most important step! Instead of struggling to feed the fabric loop into the tiny opening of the hook, hold the loop with one hand and the chin cord hook with your other hand. Push the ENTIRE hook through the fabric loop to the other side.
That's it! You've already done the hardest part. There is no need to pry the hook open with your fingernails.
Step 3: Pull Back and Slide the Loop Into the Hook
Now that the entire hook has passed through the fabric loop, gently pull the hook back while sliding the fabric loop towards the small opening of the hook.
Apply gentle pressure so the fabric loop slips through the narrow gap and settles inside the hook. You may need to adjust the angle slightly to help the loop slide through.
Remember: PULL BACK and SLIDE the loop into the opening — don't force the hook open!
Step 4: Check That the Chin Cord Is Secure
Once the fabric loop is inside the hook, gently pull the chin cord to make sure it is securely attached. Repeat the same process on the other side of your hat. That's it — your removable chin cord is ready to use!
Extra Tips for Easier Attachment
- Use good lighting: It makes the small hook and fabric loop easier to see.
- Hold the hook and fabric loop firmly: This helps keep both steady and makes it easier to guide the fabric loop into the hook opening.
- Adjust the angle: A slight change in position can help the fabric slide through the opening.
- Avoid using your fingernails: There's no need to force the hook open.
- Leave the chin cord attached: Once fitted, you can leave it in place until you need to remove it.
Why Is the Hook Opening So Small?
The narrow opening is designed to help keep the chin cord securely attached and reduce the chance of accidental detachment during normal wear. Although the hook may look difficult to use at first, knowing the correct technique makes attachment much easier.
